Bricks & Barrels bartender Drew Smith has been nominated Favorite Bartender in the fifth annual People’s Choice Awards as conducted by the Charleston Convention Bureau.
Drew’s nomination comes as no surprise to his regular customers. He has been the lead bartender for Bricks & Barrels since its grand opening nearly two years ago and, over that two year span, has garnered a considerable following of regular, loyal customers. Known for remembering the names and preferred drinks of patrons, Drew is also a wealth of information regarding regional craft beer and Kentucky bourbons. We’re pretty sure his regular fanbase played a large part in his nomination.
Like all great bartenders, Drew’s top talent is his ability to craft unique, tasty cocktails. His most recent concoction – the Pecan Pie Martini – uses Woodford Reserve Bourbon in place of traditional vodka or gin. A fan favorite and top seller, the drink was recently featured in the Charleston Gazette. In addition to his Martinis, Drew also makes a Bloody Mary known for its spiciness. Order it spicy and you’ll show a special appreciation for the extra ingredients that accompany the drink. After one sip, you’ll find yourself chewing the celery and squeezing the olives in an attempt to quickly cool your taste buds. Don’t worry, you can also order your Blood Mary mild or medium.
Nominations were accepted for the award through April 10, and the top four in each category are on the final ballot. Voting continues through April 30th, with the top vote getter receiving the final award. Charleston’s People’s Choice winners, including the Favorite Bartender award, will be announced during National Tourism Week, May 7-13.
