Bricks & Barrels Again Nominated for Three People’s Choice Awards https://www.bricksnbarrels.com/three-peoples-choice-awards-2/ Thu, 18 Apr 2019 13:30:45 +0000 https://www.bricksnbarrels.com//?p=5811 For the second consecutive year, Bricks & Barrels has been nominated in three distinct categories in the seventh annual People’s Choice […]

For the second consecutive year, Bricks & Barrels has been nominated in three distinct categories in the seventh annual People’s Choice Awards as conducted by the Charleston Convention Bureau. Area citizens of Charleston, WV, nominated Bricks & Barrels for inclusion on the 2019 ballot for Favorite Restaurant, Favorite Bartender and Favorite Dish. Nominations were accepted for the award and the top four in each category were included on the final ballot. Owner Nikki Holbert commented, “This is the second year in a row we’ve been nominated in these three categories and we’re both humbled and honored to have been chosen by our guests and the community as among the best of Charleston.”

  • Favorite Dish – The Fried Green Tomato Napoleon was the creation of Chef Lee Swoope, a native Charlestonian that added several tasty and memorable dishes to the Bricks & Barrels
Fried green tomato napoleon on a white plate against a brick background
Fried Green Tomato Napoleon: A petite filet mignon atop a tower of fried green tomatoes battered with local, stone-ground cornmeal, interlayered with pimento cheese, and drizzled with balsamic glaze and a house-made tomato jam

menu. Although listed on the menu as an appetizer, it can also be enjoyed as an entrée by requesting a large steak. Guests have the option of a 4oz, 6oz or 8oz filet mignon steak to satisfy all appetites. The dish is among the most sought-after dishes in the Kanawha Valley, but it faces stiff competition from previous award-winner Deep Fried Feta from Adelphia, recently acclaimed Pepperoni Rolls from Books & Brews, and the always popular Queso Fundido con Chorizo w/ Grilled Shrimp from Mi Cocina de Amor.

  • Favorite Bartender – Bartender Drew Smith is on this year’s ballot for the third year in a row after winning the 2017 event. Drew has been the head bartender for Bricks & Barrels since its grand opening nearly four years ago and, over that four-year span, has gathered a sizeable following of loyal customers. Drew is an expert in craft beer and bourbon, but he’s best known for his ability to concoct unique cocktails such as his Purple Rain and Pecan Pie Martini. To win again this year, Drew will have to defend his crown again three other crafty bartenders: Joey and Travis from SOHO’s and veteran bartender Rosebud from the Lee Street Lounge.
  • Favorite Restaurant – With nominations for Favorite Dish and Favorite Bartender, it’s no surprise Bricks & Barrels is also nominated for Favorite Restaurant. Known for its pleasant, soothing ambience featuring barrel-shaped dining alcoves, Bricks & Barrels remains the only fine-dining restaurant to be nominated in the seven-year history of the Awards. But to win the award it will have to topple previous award winners Adelphia, Pies & Pints and Big Joe’s. Bricks & Barrels can only win by receiving your votes.

Locals as well as tourists are encouraged to cast their votes online by midnight, April 30th. The top vote getter in each category receives the final award. Persons may vote up to 10 times per day. The CVB will announce the People’s Choice winners at a ceremony May 7 during National Tourism Week.

If you and your friends enjoy great food and drinks while creating new memories with old friends, we invite you to join us for our fourth annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. The event will take place Wednesday, December 19th, at Bricks & Barrels, Charleston’s most unique fine-dining experience. The event lasts all evening, but you’re welcome to attend as early or late as you’d like.

Think you have the ugliest Christmas sweater in the Kanawha Valley? If you’re right, you’ll win free dinner for wearing it. Bricks & Barrels is offering a $100 gift certificate for the ugliest, as selected by our panel of qualified judges. In addition to cashing in on that ugly sweater your mother-in-law gave you as retribution for marrying into the family, you’ll also be crowned as the 2018 B&B Ugly Christmas Sweater Champion. But even if you don’t win, you’ll nevertheless enjoy a great food and fun-filled night with friends in an euphoric atmosphere.

– Grand Prize for ugliest sweater: a $100 Bricks & Barrels gift certificate

– Food Features – Happy Hour until 7pm – $4 Craft Beer

– $5 House Wine by the glass – $5 Select Martinis

Dig deep into the far corners of your closet for that winning sweater, but don’t forget to reserve your table first. The event is typically a sellout and we don’t want you to miss out on the fun.
The previous three Ugly Christmas Sweater Parties have been night’s of fun and high energy, and this year’s event promises to be just as exciting. But seats are filling quickly – we strongly suggest reservations as we’re nearly sold out. We look forward to seeing you and your friends at another fun-filled event brought to you by Bricks & Barrels.

Seafood Primavera in a bright, white bowl
Mussels, clams, shrimp and mahi on a bed of fettuccine with peas, asparagus, onion and tomato in a clam and butter sauce

The entire Bricks & Barrels family is happy to announce its latest dinner feature: Seafood Primavera. This tasty dish consists of mussels, clams, shrimp and mahi mahi on a bed of fettuccine with peas, asparagus, onions and tomatoes in a clam and butter sauce. The seafood dish will be the nightly dinner feature between now and August 18th, only at Bricks & Barrels in downtown Charleston, WV. It’s already receiving rave reviews from our panel of taste-testers and regular Bricks & Barrels diners. Reserve your table now to enjoy this savory dish while it lasts.

The dish pairs well with the floral notes in a glass of Nik Weis Urban Riesling. The buttery flavors of our Seafood Primavera contrast elegantly with the tart, juicy flavors of apricots, tangerines, lemon and apples present in this white wine full of pleasant aromas. The conflicting flavors exercise the pallet, ensuring each bite is as good as the last.

If’ you’d prefer a pint of WV-brewed craft beer, we’ve got you covered on that, too. Our recommendation is Stumptown Ales Multiple Hopgasms, an American-style IPA that uses its clean, supporting malt to showcase its hop character. It’s bitter, moderately strong flavor contrasts boldly with the buttery flavors of the Seafood Primavera. At 8% alcohol, it also packs quite the punch.

This dish is a collaboration between Executive Chef Al Day and another chef in the Bricks & Barrels kitchen, Will Davis. With nearly ten years of professional food-preparation experience at other fine-dining restaurants, Mr. Davis is a promising new addition to the Bricks & Barrels family. We look forward to trying the next dish created by Chef Al and his exemplary culinary team. But we’re going to enjoy this one first!
